Ovid Introduces Ovid Universal Search™ ,
An Exclusive Cross-Platform Search Solution within OvidSP
New York, NY (October 8, 2008) – Ovid, part of Wolters Kluwer Health and a global leader in the development and delivery of customizable electronic research information for the medical, scientific and academic markets, today announced the introduction of Ovid Universal Search™, a new, premium cross-platform search solution now made available on OvidSP, the market-leading information precision search and discovery platform.
“We’re excited to bring to market a unique search offering that directly reflects what we have learned to be the primary need of both information managers and end users: deliver all the search functionality, access to full text, and workflow management tools all within one powerful platform,” said Karen Abramson, President and CEO of Ovid. “End users are urging our librarian partners to select an easy-to-use platform that cuts down on redundant searching and speeds workflow. For this release of OvidSP, we’ve built a groundbreaking solution—Ovid Universal Search—that allows users to search across boundaries and save and manage their results, regardless of the source, within a single platform.”
With this release, OvidSP takes search to the next level of innovation. Ovid Universal Search is a new premium search solution available as an optional, premium feature that delivers cross-platform content searching all within OvidSP. Users don’t have to conduct redundant searches of their content holdings on multiple platforms; they can simultaneously search all of their institution’s subscribed content wherever it resides, whether it’s available on OvidSP, free sites such as PubMed, or other subscription platforms. OvidSP and search results from other sources are displayed in an easy-to-read tabular format. Users can take advantage of many of OvidSP’s search and workflow tools to refine, manage, and save results retrieved through Ovid Universal Search.
“The development of the OvidSP platform has been driven by hundreds of in-depth interviews with those conducting their scholarly research across the globe. The key frustration of these professionals and academics is: How can I reduce the redundancies in my research?” said Andrew L. Popper, Vice President of Global Products. “Accordingly, we introduced simultaneous searching across all product types in OvidSP’s initial launch last year. Now, we’re taking it a giant step further, by allowing that search to go even beyond the holdings that users have access to on OvidSP, allowing them to import the results from other platforms and apply the same familiar tools they know for managing results on OvidSP.”
