Lippincott Also Announces Dramatic Gains in Impact Factor Across Its Journal Portfolio
Philadelphia, PA (August 16, 2007) – Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, part of Wolters Kluwer Health, leading global provider of healthcare content, context and consulting, today announced that its periodical CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, continues to hold the highest impact factor of any medical journal in the industry, according to the 2006 ISI Journal Citation Reports. The company also stated that it has experienced strong gains in impact factor across its publishing program.
CA occupies the #1 spot in Oncology, with a strikingly high impact factor (63.342) that has risen 27% since 2005. Several other Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW) titles also hold the #1 impact factor in their specialty. These include Circulation (#1 in Cardiac & Cardiovascular Systems, Hematology, and Peripheral Vascular Diseases); Annals of Surgery (#1 in Surgery), and Academic Medicine (#1 in Education and Scientific Disciplines). Impact factors measure the frequency with which peer-reviewed journals are cited by other researchers.
Overall, 64% of the LWW titles in the 2006 ISI Journal Citation Reports increased their impact factor. 52 LWW titles (37%) now place within the top ten journals in their subject area. LWW has a dominant presence among the top ten in selected fields, including Anesthesiology (Anesthesiology, The Clinical Journal of Pain, Anesthesia & Analgesia, and Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology); Otolaryngology (Ear and Hearing, The Laryngoscope, and Otology and Neurology); and Obstetrics & Gynecology (Obstetrics & Gynecology, Obstetrical & Gynecological Survey, and Menopause).
"The continued rise in impact factors is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our societies, editors, and publishing staff," commented Betsy Jones, Executive Vice President and General Manager of LWW Journals. "Impact factor is one measure of the fact that our content is valued and seen as authoritative in the medical professions. We are extremely proud and our commitment to publishing the highest level of quality content is, in this measure, affirmed." Other notable LWW gains with the 2006 Journal Citation Reports include:
- Neurology, The Laryngoscope, and Transplantation have once again garnered the title of most- cited journal in their respective fields (Clinical Neurology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Transplantation.) Spine is now the most-cited journal in Orthopedics, and The American Journal of Surgical Pathology maintained its position as the second most-cited journal in Pathology
