Jobnews Changes Course

Vacancy site Jobnews anticipates upcoming changes in the labor market

Alphen aan den Rijn, October 9, 2006 - Jobnews became the first online job vacancy site in the Netherlands in 1996. Now, ten years later, Jobnews has chosen a new strategy, anticipating  upcoming demographic shifts in the labor market.

Due to the proportional rise in the ageing population, the post Second World War "baby-boom" generation will leave the working existence step by step, and a prolonged shortage of qualified (higher educated) staff will arise. The new Jobnews concept foresees in just that.

From now on, a search module searching the resume database fully automatic for suitable candidates at the time of a vacancy posting which will support employers placing a vacancy. The employer will be provided immediately with a proposed suitable candidate for the open position. This candidate will then directly receive an e-mail in which he or she will be notified of the submission of their resume to an employer. Instead of a passive database in which people are searching, Jobnews' database has become active and makes both job demand and job offer recommendations. Furthermore, new is that employers also get free access to the searchable database during the term of their vacancies.

The resume profile and appropriate features are of overriding importance in regards to the candidate's suitability assessment. For this reason all newly submitted resumes are converted to a database format enabling detailed searches by the search module prior to recommending suitable candidates to the poster. This makes the recommendations to the poster more relevant and purposively.

To ensure the candidates' resumes are up-to-date (and thus relevant), Jobnews enforces more strictly the resume's storage term. Every candidate with a submitted resume on Jobnews will standard receive an annual e-mail requesting if that term has to be renewed for an additional year. This way, employers are sure that they contact a database of people who actually actively look for a new job.

Jobnews director Martin Bannink is pleased with the innovations: "We receive enthusiastic responses from both employers and people looking for another job. Employers are happy because they are exposed to candidates, although less than before, but the remaining number is indeed relevant and suitable. That saves administrative red tape. And the people who are looking for another job are happy that Jobnews is now actively presenting their resume to relevant employers. Jobnews really gets to work with their resume."
